Dr. Terri Leon, Principal

Alma Romero, Assistant Principal

Meet the Principal

Hello, Jaguars!  My name is Terri León, and it is my pleasure to be the founding principal of Del Sol High School! I am entering my 19th year in public education.  I began my career by teaching English Language Arts and English Language Development for students new to the United States at both the middle and high school levels.  My administrative experience includes 5 years as a high school assistant principal, as well as experience as a middle school assistant principal, Coordinator of Curriculum and Assessment in a TK-12 district, and Director of Instructional Support Services in our very own Oxnard Union High School District.  I spent four years as the principal of a large elementary school in Simi Valley Unified, prior to coming to Del Sol High School in July 2022.

I hold a bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in English from the University of California, Santa Barbara; a Masters degree (emphasis in teaching diverse populations) and secondary teaching credentials in English and Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara; and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and administrative Credential from the University of Southern California, where I conducted my dissertation research on creating positive campus culture at the high school level.

I am also an adjunct professor at California Lutheran University and currently teach the Oxnard cohort of counselors and teachers working on their Masters degrees in Education.  I am married to an amazing man names Carlos, who is a bilingual elementary teacher.  We have an 8 year-old son named Antonio Jorge-Carlo, who lives every moment to the fullest.  In my spare time, I love to read, travel, and cook.

My goal is to partner with the community to meet our students' needs and wants.  Our desire is to build a school that offers every opportunity we can to our students to enable them to be college and career ready, from amazing career pathways to an inclusive and equitable, rigorous academic program.  Our kids deserve every opportunity and support available and we will make sure they get it.  We want our students to have Jaguar pride before they even step foot on our campus, because they know they are going somewhere designed and built just for them.  I am very much looking forward to working with student and community focus groups to really listen and further develop our missions, vision, values, and goals.

Meet the Assistant Principal

My name is Alma Romero, and I am excited to join the Jaguar family as the new assistant principal. My
journey in education began as a kid when I knew that one day, I would be a teacher. I am entering my
19 th year in education, all served in the beautiful city of Oxnard.
In 2005, I had the privilege to begin my teaching career in the same middle school I attended. I started
as an English language arts, social science, and English language development teacher. I taught middle
school for 12 years and found my true love and passion in education working with English language
learners, which lead to my role as the district’s English language learner TOSA for four years. I then
returned to the classroom and experienced the unique challenges of distance learning recognizing the
need for student advocates in leadership roles. During the 2020-2021 school year, I was given the
opportunity to lead as an assistant principal where I have served ever since.
I was born and raised in the city of Oxnard and continue to reside in this amazing city full of culture and
prosperity. I attended neighborhood schools from K-8 th grade and graduated from Hueneme High
School. I received my bachelor’s degree and teaching credential from California State University,
Northridge and my master’s degree in administration from Grand Canyon University.
I am an advocate for our students, a voice for our parents and a champion of our teachers. And now- I
have the honor and privilege in joining the OUHSD family at Del Sol High School!
